Indonesia eyes QRIS Star to rank creative economy businesses

It is intended to make it easier for travelers, both domestic and foreign, to find what they are looking for,
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Creative Economy is promoting the development of QRIS Star as a catalog and classification system for Indonesia's creative economy products and services, making them easier for consumers, including foreign tourists, to identify and choose.
Muhammad Neil El Himam, Deputy for Digital Creativity and Technology at the Ministry of Creative Economy, said QRIS Star could use a ranking system similar to Michelin stars to classify various creative economy businesses.
“Perhaps those with one star are those who have just started using QRIS consistently, while those with two stars, for example, could be businesses whose products have been tried and whose food is considered tasty,” he said during a discussion at the FEKDI x IFSE 2026 in Jakarta on Saturday.
Himam said the system could eventually be developed into several levels. Businesses that have just started using QRIS could receive an initial classification, which could then be upgraded based on quality assessments and certain certifications.
The ranking concept is not limited to the culinary sector but could also be applied to other creative economy and tourism sectors, he said.
The classification could help tourists find products or destinations that match their needs by providing information about their level or quality, Himam said.
“It is intended to make it easier for travelers, both domestic and foreign, to find what they are looking for,” he said.
The ministry also sees QRIS Star as potentially helping Indonesian creative economy products and services gain access to global markets
Indonesia's creative economy product exports reached about US$27 billion in 2025, according to the ministry. Himam said the figure was still largely made up of physical goods shipped by sea or air.
Digital creative economy transactions are not yet fully reflected in the export figure, he said, citing Indonesian music consumed through streaming services, films watched on over-the-top (OTT) platforms and creative services provided by Indonesian companies to overseas clients.
QRIS Star could eventually become part of an ecosystem connecting Indonesian creative economy products and services with consumers overseas, Himam said.
“The hope is that QRIS, if it can be introduced, can eventually be used abroad. If people buy goods from Indonesia, services from Indonesia or Indonesian-made productions, they could use QRIS,” he said.
