Linda Mwananchi At Risk Of Failure Over Separate Party Vehicles, Warns Eric Omondi

Translate

Comedian and political activist Eric Omondi has cautioned leaders within the Linda Mwananchi movement against internal factionalism, warning that political fragmentation could derail their agenda ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking during an interview on Wednesday night, September 30, 2026, Omondi urged key opposition figures—notably Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna—to consolidate their political machinery, warning that competing party platforms risk exposing the movement to external interference.

“A house divided never stands; Babu Owino has his party, Sifuna anafungua yake,” Omondi remarked. “Linda Mwananchi will fail if they do not stick together.”

Emerging Party Realities Within Linda Mwananchi

Omondi’s warning comes amid growing speculation surrounding the electoral vehicles that key movement leaders intend to deploy for the 2027 polls.

Babu Owino recently unveiled The Mwananchi Party—rebranded from the former Muungano Party following official approval by the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) on September 10, 2026. Owino launched an aggressive membership drive, claiming the rebranded party onboarded nearly 100,000 members within its first three days.

Concurrently, Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi signaled that Senator Edwin Sifuna is preparing to launch a separate political vehicle to back a 2027 presidential bid, promising a formal unveiling within two weeks:

“Na mambo ya chama mumekuwa mkiuliza chama ni gani. Sisi tumejipanga… chini ya wiki mbili tutakuwa tunatangaza ile chama ambaye Edwin Sifuna atasimama kama Rais wa Kenya,” Osotsi declared.

The Threat of State Infiltration and the Coalition Path

Cautioning against paranoia and political rivalry, Omondi warned that failing to form a united front would play directly into the hands of the ruling administration.

“When you allow the government to infiltrate to bring doubt, confusion, and division, mtaisha,” he stated.

Omondi advised the movement’s leaders to leverage Kenya’s tradition of coalition-building rather than competing against one another:

“Most governments historically in this country are formed by coalition,” Omondi noted. “Babu already has a party; Sifuna, bring yours, mushikane—people of like-mindedness—and you will succeed. And if they do not do that, they will fail.”

He concluded with a stern reminder that public support for individual politicians is conditional on their ability to deliver unity: “If they mess, sisi pia hatutawabembeleza. People come and go.”
