Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested a suspect identified as Adedeji Benjamin over a case of abduction, rape and armed robbery in Benin City.

This was contained in a statement by the spokesperson for the command, Eno Ikoedem, on Thursday.

The statement read, “The Edo State Police Command has arrested a male suspect, identified as Adedeji Benjamin, in connection with an alleged case of abduction, rape and armed robbery in Benin City.

“On 17th October 2026, at about 2100hrs, the Command received a distress call from a lady, who reported that she was allegedly abducted by two men from Ihama and taken to Tembogha, where she was raped and robbed at gunpoint.

“Upon receipt of the report, operatives of Aduwawa Division immediately swung into action, leading to the arrest of one of the suspects, Adedeji Benjamin. The toy gun was used to commit the crime, and a Lexus Jeep was recovered as an exhibit.”

The PPRO said that the suspect has confessed to the crime, noting that the Commissioner of Police, Patrick Daaor, promised that the command would continue to protect the residence.

She added, “The suspect has confessed to the crime and will be prosecuted in accordance with extant laws while efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing accomplice.

“The Commissioner of Police, Patrick Daaor, reiterates the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and urges members of the public to promptly report suspicious activities to the Police.”
