Terminator’s Arnold Schwarzenegger Replacement Is Scarier Than The Original T-800

The Terminator's new T-800 looks less intimidating than Arnold Schwarzenegger's, but he's even deadlier. Part of the appeal of the Terminator franchise is all the questions it raises. For example, whether the timeline is a closed loop or if multiple versions of John Connor and Kyle Reese exist, whether Judgment Day can truly be averted, and whether the multiverse theory applies to the franchise have yet to be confirmed. There's plenty of evidence for each perspective, as well as countless ways new movies could put a fresh spin on them.

Beyond these lore questions, the most urgent one may be whether the Terminator franchise can ever successfully deliver a third movie worthy of rounding out a definitive trilogy. For over three decades, a succession of flawed Terminator sequels and reboots have repeatedly failed to capture the perfect lightning-in-a-bottle quality of James Cameron's original duology. Finding a creative vision that balances respect for the established mythos with a fresh story is the franchise's ultimate challenge, considering how perfectly T2: Jugdment Day seemed to conclude John and Sarah Connor's journey.

It's safe to say that Terminator: Dark Fate marks the final appearance of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton, as both actors and James Cameron have officially bid farewell to the franchise. With Cameron writing the script for Terminator 7, a new lead robot is bound to replace Schwarzenegger's iconic likeness.

Terminator's New Blond T-800 Is More Efficient Than Schwarzenegger's

The T-800 searches for John Connor in Archie vs Terminator #1

Archie vs Terminator #1 presents a sequel to T2: Judgment Day, where Sarah and John Connor move to Riverdale after the events of the movie. However, their attempts to keep a low profile soon fail, as a new T-800 arrives, and Archie makes the huge mistake of uncovering John's real identity. But even if Archie didn't actively help the Terminator, the new T-800 turns out to be more effective at his job than the original, as it poses as a Riverdale High School coach, strolls into the facilities, and immediately targets John.

Dynamite's new Terminator is more colorful than Arnold Schwarzenegger's, with a bright blond flat top and a blue tank top underneath the vibrant blue coach shirt, jeans, and a whistle. Yet, it stands out in Riverdale much less than Schwarzenegger's first T-800 does in the neon nightclubs of James Cameron's The Terminator, and it reaches his target much faster than Robert Patrick's T-1000. Archie vs Terminator also makes its titular robot especially terrifying with small glimpses at its red pupil, shining beneath its fake eyeball.

Terminator's Most Controversial Installment Is Being Reimagined In The Most Unexpected Place

Archie Vs Terminator May Fix Dark Fate's Biggest Sin

  • John Connor is targeted by a T-800 In Archie vs Terminator

  • John Connor is terminated in Terminator Dark Fate

By the end of Archie vs Terminator #1, the new T-800 has a helpless John Connor right in its crosshairs. However, as deadly as the new robot might be, this is an Archie comic, and the Terminator has found its target as early as the first of four issues. John Connor will likely escape the T-800's grasp, perhaps even thanks to Archie's help. If he does, he may also be escaping his most tragic death. In Terminator: Dark Fate, John and Sarah Connor try to build a new life the same way, only for another robot to arrive and assassinate John before the kid can even react.

Realistically, there's little John Connor could do to avoid a third Terminator's direct attack without the help of Sarah, Kyle Reese, or a benevolent T-800. Still, a legend like John Connor deserves a better fate than to be murdered in cold blood by a robot wearing the face of his savior and best friend, especially in front of his mother. Archie vs Terminator may not be canon to James Cameron's first two Terminator movies, but it may provide a breath of relief to those disappointed by the last installment in the franchise.
