Slow Horses and VisionQuest favourites join Outlander legend in starry new psychological TV horror

Translate

Apple TV's starry psychological horror Ascension has added three more performers to its series regular line-up, including Slow Horses and Marvel Cinematic Universe alumni.

Inspired by Adam Nevill's novel Last Days, Ascension is a psychological horror thriller following Rose (played by Outlander's Caitríona Balfe), a documentary filmmaker and recently divorced mother, who is brilliant at uncovering others' truths – but struggling to resolve her own.

When Rose begins a project on a mysterious 20th-century cult known as the Church of Ascension, she finds unexpected refuge in its teachings, until she discovers something far more insidious beneath.

According to Deadline, the project has now enlisted the acting talent of Christopher Chung (Roddy Ho in Slow Horses), T'Nia Miller (Jocasta in VisionQuest) and Amanda Plummer (Wiress in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire).

Specifics about their characters are yet to be revealed, but the trio join Balfe and acting legend Bill Nighy in the project from Alfonso Cuarón.

His career spans the likes of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Children of Men, Gravity and Netflix's Roma, making him one of the most respected creatives in Hollywood today.

Most recently, Cuarón produced Cate Blanchett-led miniseries Disclaimer, also for Apple TV, which was another book adaptation about a documentarian on the cusp of a very personal crisis.

Ascension promises to explore evil and innocence at the highest level, while asking how far we'll go, and what we'll sacrifice, to protect the ones we love, even when the greatest threat to them may be ourselves.

The series is written by Natalie Erika James, Christian White and the Cuarón brothers Alfonso and Carlos, with James serving as lead director. Her earlier work includes Rosemary's Baby sequel Apartment 7A.

Ascension is coming soon to Apple TV. You can sign up to Apple TV for a seven-day free trial.
