KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 — Air quality in Johan Setia, Klang dipped to an unhealthy level this morning, with the area recording an Air Pollutant Index (API) reading of 157 at 8am, according to national air quality data.
Berita Harian reported that across the country, 64 monitoring stations reported moderate air quality, while three locations in Kedah (Alor Setar, Langkawi) and Perlis registered good readings.
Under Malaysia’s API scale, readings of:
- 0–50 indicate good air quality
- 51–100 moderate
- 101–200 unhealthy
- 201–300 very unhealthy
- Above 300 hazardous
The figures are updated hourly from 68 monitoring stations nationwide.
Recent wet weather had helped improve haze conditions in the Klang Valley and parts of Sarawak, but the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) cautioned that the country remains in the Southwest Monsoon period until late September. MetMalaysia Director‑General Mohd Hisham Mohd Ani warned that haze could worsen again if open burning is not controlled.
