Indonesia, Malaysia push bilateral investment via MIIC-WG: Minister

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Trade Minister Budi Santoso and his Malaysian counterpart Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani are promoting stronger bilateral investment cooperation through the Malaysia-Indonesia Investment Committee Working Group (MIIC-WG).
The cooperation was one of the topics discussed at the 4th Ministerial Meeting of the Indonesia-Malaysia Joint Trade and Investment Committee (JTIC) at the Ministry of Trade Office in Jakarta on Thursday (Sept 3).
During the meeting, the two ministers exchanged views on investment cooperation and the role of the MIIC-WG in strengthening the synergy between their respective investment authorities.
"Indonesia and Malaysia welcome the synergy between our respective investment authorities to promote a conducive investment climate and strengthen bilateral investment cooperation," Minister Santoso noted.

According to him, the collaboration is expected to open wider opportunities for Indonesian and Malaysian businesses to expand investment and strengthen economic relations between the two countries.
The JTIC meeting also touched on the issue of strengthening trade cooperation, including market access and trade facilitation for agricultural and food products.
The two countries further welcomed the strengthening of cooperation between business actors through the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) and the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE).
Indonesia-Malaysia cooperation also encompasses several other sectors, such as e-commerce, agriculture, halal, and standardisation.
Both parties then encouraged relevant authorities to follow up on the meeting's outcomes concretely to strengthen bilateral trade and investment cooperation.

JTIC is a bilateral forum aimed at strengthening Indonesia-Malaysia cooperation in trade and investment. It enables both countries to address issues, challenges, and opportunities of mutual interest.
The 5th JTIC is scheduled to take place in Malaysia at a time to be mutually agreed upon by both countries.
From January to July 2026, Indonesia-Malaysia trade reached US$16.83 billion, a 21.01 percent increase compared to the same period in 2025 of US$13.91 billion.
In the period, Indonesian exports were recorded at US$8.26 billion and imports at US$8.57 billion.
Indonesia's main non-oil and gas export commodities to Malaysia include mineral fuels, animal and vegetable fats and oils, various chemical products, copper, and iron and steel.
Meanwhile, imports from Malaysia consist of machinery and mechanical equipment, plastics and plastic products, electrical machinery and equipment, organic chemicals, and cocoa and chocolate.
