SITIAWAN: Two sisters were killed when a fire destroyed two adjoining double-storey houses in Kampung Koh here today.

The victims, aged 15 and 18, were trapped inside the houses when the fire broke out.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department director Datuk Sayani Saidon said the department received an emergency call at 9.01am, and firefighters arrived at the scene nine minutes later.

"The blaze also engulfed two Proton Saga cars, a Proton Perdana and a motorcycle.

"Firefighters from the Sitiawan and Seri Manjung fire and rescue stations, assisted by the Pantai Remis Volunteer Fire Brigade, were deployed to the scene.

"The fire was brought under control about 10.30am, while overhaul operations were still underway.

"The department had also contacted its special K9 unit to assist in the investigation," she said.

She added that the cause of the fire was being investigated and the bodies had been handed over to the police.
