Thriller movie SOULM8TE has become available to watch in the UK following its scrapped cinema release. Acting as a spin-off to the hit M3GAN, the movie was due to get a theatrical premiere earlier this year.

However, it was cancelled just weeks beforehand, though UK fans need not worry any longer, with the film now getting a streaming release.

After a digital release in the US in August, SOULM8TE has just landed on Disney+ in the UK, so now is your chance to catch it.

The film features Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale's Arty Froushan alongside Picnic at Hanging Rock's Lily Sullivan and Oppenheimer's David Rysdahl, and focuses on a man who, in the wake of his wife's death, gets a sex robot.

"In an attempt to create a truly sentient partner, the man inadvertently turns a harmless lovebot into a deadly soulmate," the synopsis adds.

"Fundamentally, I view this film as an exploration of relationships and loneliness," director Kate Dolan previously explained. "Despite technological advances, there are enduring human truths we cannot escape, and I am looking forward to delving into those depths."

James Wan, who co-wrote the story, added: "We're excited to partner with Kate to bring this story to life with her unique cinematic vision and point of view," describing the spin-off as "a thrilling and seductive addition to the M3GAN universe".

SOULM8TE didn't receive the most glowing reception after its premiere, sitting at just 38% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes based on 21 reviews.

Dread Central suggested it "wants to be a thoughtful commentary on impossible beauty standards", though "that message short-circuits through a pulpy erotic thriller that takes a step back from films like Companion".

"It’s a solid science fiction tale, although it suffers from an unremarkable plot that lacks surprise and an ending that entirely misses the mark," added Pop Culture Leftovers.

However, Variety wrote: "None of this is remotely credible, or particularly suspenseful. But it is handled with reasonable aplomb by director Kate Dolan and her cast, who do their best to elevate material that can only be raised so far."

SOULM8TE is streaming now on Disney+.
