"I was shocked": Liverpool-set BBC drama This City Is Ours teases cliffhanger-filled season 2

This City Is Ours is finally back on screens this weekend, and it seems that its second season will be full of 'shocking' cliffhangers. The Liverpool-set drama focuses on a crime family in the city, with the new episodes picking up after season one's events.
Opening up about season two, James Nelson Joyce – who plays gangster Michael Kavanagh – reminded fans of where things were left off for his character.
"At the end of the first series Michael had decided that he wanted to choose a life with Diana, and they left for Spain," he told the BBC. 'At the beginning of series two, that’s where we find them, in Happy Town, and it's picture-perfect.

"Then something happens that drags Michael back to Liverpool, and once again, he has to choose between Diana and his other life – he’s a complex mix of ruthless and vulnerable," the actor further teased.
James then shared his initial reaction to reading season two's scripts, admitting: "I was just desperate to read the next one. Each episode was left on a cliffhanger, and we didn't know what was going to happen next. When I read the script for the final episode, I was shocked!"
Ahead of the new episodes, it has already been confirmed that This City Is Ours will be getting a third season, with production set to kick off next year.
"Following the quite breathtaking response to series 1, myself, the cast and our wonderful crew were all determined not to drop the ball and endeavour to deliver an even better series 2!" creator Stephen Butchard said.

"No spoilers, but I'm hoping this fantastic early commission from the BBC for a third series is an indication that we may have come close to doing just that! Many, many thanks to Lindsay Salt, Jo McClellan and all at BBC Drama for their never-ending support.
"And of course, sincere thanks to all who have watched, embraced and spread the word. I hope you enjoy series 2 as much as we enjoyed making it — can't wait to do it all over again!"
This City Is Ours season 1 can be streamed now on BBC iPlayer. Season 2 begins this Sunday (25 October) at 9pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
