Buffy the Vampire Slayer is officially returning in 2027 with a brand-new series that promises to be more than worth the wait. Below are the official release date and the changes fans can expect. And don’t worry, these “quote-unquote” changes are something all fans will be excited about and more than willing to welcome.
If you’re a die-hard Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan, you’re likely well aware that last summer, news broke that Buffy Summers would return with a brand-new series. The series was initially anticipated to launch this fall, but was ultimately delayed after it “evolved and became more ambitious” than initially anticipated.
Now, we finally have official confirmation of a new anticipated release date: Dynamite Entertainment’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer will kick off on March 10, 2027. As Dynamite said in previous press releases, writer Kelly Thompson’s story for Buffy Summers evolved into something far more complex, so Thompson and Dynamite felt they needed to step back and reassess to deliver the best possible story experience for fans.
This reassessment ultimately led to a multi-month delay and a resolicitation of the series, since Kelly and Dynamite wanted the series to be “done right and not rushed.” As a result, fans can expect one major change to the series that will have them punching the air in celebration: significantly more story pages than the average issue, at no additional cost to readers or retailers.
What To Expect From Buffy the Vampire Slayer's New Series
Main Cover by David Nakayama for Buffy the Vampire Slayer #1 (2027)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer #1 will be brought to life by the creative duo of Eisner-winning writer Kelly Thompson (Absolute Wonder Woman, Black Widow) and superstar artist Stephen Byrne (Wonder Twins), with colors by Lee Loughridge and letters by Jeff Eckleberry. Fans can find the official synopsis for the first issue below:
Into every generation, a slayer is born. And Buffy Summers may have broken the mold. Though Buffy's powers were varied and great, the love and devotion she inspired was perhaps her greatest power. And when she gave her life to save the world, the people who loved her couldn't live with that. This is that story.
As mentioned, story pages will increase significantly, with Buffy the Vampire Slayer #1 featuring 35 story pages. However, the issue will notably have 48 pages total and will remain priced at Dynamite’s standard $4.99, making this an absolute steal for fans. Lovers of Buffy the Vampire Slayer should also note that Thompson’s companion series, Angel, will also arrive in March and receive similar treatment, with the issue featuring 32 story pages and a physical copy totaling 48 pages.
So mark your calendars for March, because this spring will launch one of the most ambitious and epic Buffy the Vampire Slayer eras to date.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer #1 from Dynamite will be available to read on March 10, 2027!
