The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old suspect, Mustapha Sani, over the alleged theft of an Infinix Android phone in Adamawa State.

The command said the suspect was arrested on October 19, 2026, by operatives of the State Intelligence Department in Awka following intelligence-led operations.

In a statement on Thursday, the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said preliminary findings indicated that the suspect allegedly dispossessed unsuspecting victims of their mobile phones in Adamawa before fleeing to Anambra.

The statement read, “The Anambra State Police Command has recorded another operational success with the arrest of a 19-year-old suspect, Mustapha Sani, and the recovery of an Infinix Android phone allegedly stolen in Adamawa State.

“The arrest was made on 19th October 2026 by operatives of the State Intelligence Department, Awka, following intelligence-led policing and proactive efforts to track down the suspect.

“Preliminary information indicates that the suspect allegedly dispossessed unsuspecting victims of their mobile phones in Adamawa State before fleeing to Anambra State, where the stolen devices were reportedly intended for sale or use.

“The recovered phone is currently being investigated to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged offence. The Command has commenced further investigations to determine the suspect’s involvement and facilitate the return of the recovered phone to its rightful owner.”

The police said investigations were ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged offence and determine the suspect’s involvement.

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Nnanna Ama, reiterated the command’s commitment to tackling crime, recovering stolen property and ensuring that suspects were brought to justice in accordance with the law.

He assured residents and visitors that the command would sustain intelligence-led operations and proactive policing to protect lives and property, enhance public safety and maintain law and order across the state.

Recall that the PUNCH reported that the Borno State Police Command arrested six suspects over the theft of a mobile phone and the alleged unlawful withdrawal of N5.65m from the owner’s bank account.

The suspects were arrested following a complaint by a resident of Damboa Road, Maiduguri, identified as Abba K.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, said the victim reported that his Infinix Smart 8 phone went missing from his pocket after he alighted from a commercial tricycle on October 13, 2026.
