Jacob Zuma Foundation relaunched in Durban

Former President Jacob Zuma has relaunched the Jacob G Zuma Foundation at an event held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Umhlanga, Durban, on Friday, 25 September.

The launch was attended by members of the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party’s leadership and Members of Parliament, including Mzwanele Manyi, secreary-general Sbonelo Nomvalo and KwaZulu-Natal convenor Willies Mchunu.

Mchunu said he attended the event as a patron of his foundation.

“We congratulate President Zuma for the relaunch of his foundation, whose work was disturbed by things that were done to Zuma. We believe that the foundation will continue to be impactful as it was before. There are many people who graduated because of the foundation and we wish Zuma all the best,” he said.

The Jacob Zuma Foundation’s chief executive officer, Dr Phumelele Zakwe, said it would focus on strategic areas including technological innovation, entrepreneurship and helping people develop sustainable businesses.

Zakwe said the foundation’s approach would differ from its previous focus areas, which included sport, education and agriculture.

“We are going to focus on entrepreneurship and want people to start their own businesses. If you’re a livestock farmer, you should know which markets you will sell them through, and through partnerships that we’re going to form, we will help people from the outskirts of the country to generate income and use technology to market their businesses,” Zakwe said.

The foundation aims to support entrepreneurs by helping them access markets and use technology to promote their businesses.
