It's the end of an era for Netflix's acclaimed mystery series.

There is no shortage of mystery shows on Netflix, including Elite, Fool Me Once, The Perfect Couple, A Good Girl's Guide to Murder, The Residence, and Dead Boy Detectives. 2026 delivered a new hit in the genre for Netflix via I Will Find You, a miniseries based on Harlan Coben's novel of the same name. With 120.8 million views, it became the streamer's fifth most-watched English-language series of all time, only behind Wednesday season 1, Adolescence, Stranger Things season 4, and Stranger Things season 5.

Now, Netflix's mystery comedy series A Man on the Inside is confirmed to have wrapped filming for season 3. Cast member Mary Elizabeth Ellis shared the news on Instagram with the following caption: "That’s a wrap on A MAN ON THE INSIDE! What a gift of a job/ show/ experience it has been." She also included images of hugging Ted Danson and smiling alongside other co-stars, including Stephen Root, Rachel Dratch, Bernadette Peters, Deuce Basco, Lincoln Lambert, Wyatt Young, Eugene Cordero, and Mary Steenburgen. Check out her post below:

A Man on the Inside is centered on Charles Nieuwendyk (Danson), a former college professor who finds new purpose when he goes undercover for private investigator Julie Kovalenko (Lilah Richcreek Estrada). After solving a case at a retirement community in season 1, he goes undercover at a university in season 2, and in what is confirmed to be the end of the series, he is been hired by Coco Van Beck (Peters) to discover who is sabotaging her philanthropic work. Ellis plays Charles' daughter, Emily.

Netflix announced on September 25 that filming for season 3 had begun in San Francisco, meaning that the process only took about a month and a half to complete. A release date has not been set yet, but production wrapping now means that a 2027 premiere is likely.

Along with Charles, Julie, and Emily, other original A Man on the Inside characters confirmed to be returning for season 3 include Emily's husband Joel Piñero (Cordero), Pacific View Retirement Community managing director Didi (Stephanie Beatriz), Charles' friend Calbert Graham (Stephen McKinley Henderson), his other friend Virgina Foldau (Sally Struthers), and love interest Mona Margadoff (Steenburgen), the last of whom is played by Danson's real-life wife.

As for the new characters, Coco is joined by Charles' estranged brother Dave (Root), Coco's assistant Maud (Dratch), Coco's employee Jack Spencer (Nick Offerman), vineyard owner and Coco's ex-husband Leland (Christopher McDonald), Coco's longtime friend Kitt (Annette O'Toole), real estate developer Mark Delaurio (Diedrich Bader), and Emily's friend Chloe (Jessica St. Clair).

With a 93% critics' score and 80% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, A Man on the Inside reviews have been very positive, along with receiving the necessary viewership to get renewed for multiple seasons. Danson's performance has been widely praised, and he was recognized with a Golden Globe Award nomination for season 1.

A Man on the Inside was created by Michael Schur, who also serves as the showrunner and previously worked with Danson on The Good Place. The story for season 1 of the Netflix series is based on the 2020 documentary The Mole Agent.
