13 Bukidnon LGUs bag Gawad Kalasag awards for disaster resilience

VALENCIA CITY, Bukidnon — Thirteen local government units (LGUs) in Bukidnon received gold recognitions from the Office of the Civil Defense Region 10 (OCD-10) as Gawad Kalasag 2026 awardees for their exemplary disaster resilience and response programs on Wednesday.

The awardees include Cabanglasan, Dangcagan,Don Carlos,Impasug-ong, Kadingilan, Kalilangan, Lantapan, Libona, Malitbog, Maramag, San Fernando, and the cities of Malaybalay and Valencia.

Aside from these Bukidnon awardees, regional recognitions were also extended to eight LGUs in Lanao del Norte, six in Misamis Oriental, and two each in Misamis Occidental and Camiguin.

The city government of Cagayan de Oro also secured the same recognition under the Highly Urbanized City (HUC) category.

The gold recognition is presented to LGUs that exceeded the standards for establishing and operating their Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Councils and Local DRRM Offices, as mandated under Sections 11 and 12 of Republic Act No. 10121, also known as the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act.

Spearheaded by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) through the OCD, the annual Gawad Kalasag stands as the country’s premier awards program honoring excellence and innovation in disaster risk reduction, management, and humanitarian assistance. /jpv
