Asian Games 2026 weather updates: India vs Afghanistan men’s cricket quarterfinal called off due to rain

The Indian senior men’s cricket team is set to play its first game at the ongoing Asian Games against Afghanistan at the Korogi Athletic Park in Nisshin, Aichi Prefecture, on Monday.

However, there are fears over whether the match is going to go ahead after the quarterfinal game between Pakistan and Hong Kong China got cancelled earlier in the day due to heavy showers.

The Japan Meteorological Agency issues a storm alert

The advisory reads: As of 10:00 a.m. on the 28th, very strong Typhoon No. 26 is located approximately 100 kilometres north of Minamidaito Island and is moving east-northeast at a speed of about 15 kilometres per hour. The central pressure is 945 hPa; maximum sustained winds near the centre are 50 metres per second, with peak gusts reaching 70 metres per second. Storm-force winds (sustained speeds of 25 metres per second or higher) are occurring within 100 kilometres south of the centre and within 85 kilometres north of the centre.

Typhoon No. 26 is approaching the Daito Islands region. It is expected to move east-northeast across the waters south of Japan. Additionally, the atmosphere will become highly unstable due to warm, moist air surrounding the typhoon.

In the Okinawa region, please remain on alert for high waves accompanied by swells and for storm-force winds on the 28th.

Please also be cautious of lightning strikes and violent gusts, such as those associated with tornadoes. If there are signs that a developed cumulonimbus cloud is approaching, take measures to ensure your safety, such as moving indoors.
