Pro-Israel groups told they 'are not welcome' at march to remember East London blackshirts battle

It was the day East End Jews stood shoulder to shoulder with their neighbours to drive Oswald Mosley's blackshirts off the streets.

But 90 years since the Battle of Cable Street, pro-Israel Jewish groups have been branded 'fascists' and told they are not welcome at an anniversary march by hard-Left activists being held today.

Jewish Anti-Zionist Action, a group which says 'there is no antifascism without anti-Zionism', declared on Instagram that 'fascists aren't welcome at the antifascist march'.

The face of the campaign is Talia Woodin, 27, a former Extinction Rebellion co-ordinator who posted 'ding dong the witch is dead' when Queen Elizabeth died.

Ms Woodin, who is Jewish, is the daughter of Mike Woodin, a former principal speaker of the Green Party.

Ahead of the anniversary event, she lashed out at the Board of Deputies of British Jews – a body representing the community, which has organised a 'festival of Jewish culture' to mark the occasion.

In a video posted online, Ms Woodin said the group could not claim the march as its own because it had warned Jewish Chronicle readers in 1936 to avoid Cable Street rather than stay and fight.

Her group is part of a coalition of Left-wing organisations, including London Community Defence and Jewish Voice for Liberation, behind the campaign to stop pro-Israel groups attending.

London Community Defence shared a photo of Nigel Farage with sniper crosshairs over his face on social media in May, captioned: 'For legal purposes, I think it would be a terrible idea to buss [sic] a cap in Nigel's ass.'

And Jewish Voice for Liberation recently condemned Leeds Minster for removing a Gaza tribute featuring Hamas terrorists' names.

A Metropolitan Police source last night suggested disorder is not expected at the march, but said spats between groups are always possible.
