The 47-year-old woman shot dead alongside her uncle at NTHC Estate in Sakumono, Accra, has been identified as Irene Atubiga, an entrepreneur and Chief Executive Officer of Kussa Shea Bliss, a shea butter-based skincare and personal care products company.

Information shared on social media by people close to the deceased indicates that Irene was a mother of two young boys.

Her death, alongside that of her 57-year-old uncle, George Atubiga, has generated public concern following the shooting at their residence on Friday, October 30, 2026.

Irene’s brother has also shared a tribute to the deceased, describing the incident as a gruesome murder.

From banking to entrepreneurship

Before venturing into business full-time, Irene reportedly spent more than a decade in the banking sector, where she worked in quality assurance and customer experience roles at Ecobank Ghana.

She later pursued her entrepreneurial ambitions, establishing Kussa Shea Bliss, a business focused on skincare and personal care products made with shea butter.

The company’s website identifies her as its founder and Chief Executive Officer, and says the business was established to develop a premium skincare brand around shea butter and traditional knowledge of its production.

Kussa Shea Bliss says it sources its shea butter from women’s cooperatives in Northern Ghana, with a focus on supporting women’s economic empowerment and promoting sustainable wealth creation.

Its product range includes natural shea butter-based skincare and personal care formulations, which the company markets to customers in Ghana and other parts of the world.

The company’s website describes its approach as one that combines ethically sourced ingredients with customer care and sustainable business practices.

Circumstances surrounding the shooting

The Ghana Police Service has said preliminary investigations suggest the killings may have been triggered by a financial dispute involving George Atuguba and a man identified as Samuel Christopher Osei Anto.

According to the Police, George had allegedly borrowed GH¢500,000 from the suspect but had failed to repay the amount.

The suspect reportedly went to the victims’ residence on the morning of Friday, October 30, accompanied by a woman identified as Beatrice Mumuni, to demand repayment.

A misunderstanding allegedly ensued during the encounter, after which Osei Anto reportedly shot and killed George and his niece, Irene.

Officers from the Sakumono District Police Command were dispatched to the residence after receiving information about the incident and found the two victims lying in pools of blood.

They were rushed to a hospital, where a medical officer pronounced them dead. Their bodies were subsequently deposited at the Police Hospital Mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

The Police have since arrested Beatrice Mumuni, 47, in connection with the killings.

According to the Police, she is believed to have led Osei Anto to the victims’ residence before the shooting.

Osei Anto has been declared wanted to assist investigations, with the Ghana Police Service offering a GH¢100,000 reward for credible information leading to his arrest.

The Police have urged anyone with information about his whereabouts to report to the nearest police station or call the emergency numbers 191 or 18555.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
