The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has reported significant progress in dewatering operations at the site of the crashed ATR 42-500 aircraft, NAF 931, in Igbokoda, Ondo State, as recovery efforts entered their 14th day on Monday.

The Air Force said continuous pumping had substantially reduced the water level at the crash site, with the recovery team working to remove most of the remaining water, subject to prevailing conditions.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Director of Public Relations and Information, Headquarters, Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, said efforts were also ongoing to reinforce the embankment with sandbags to prevent collapse and maintain stability during the dewatering process.

According to the Service, the operation requires sustained engineering and water-removal efforts under challenging conditions, reflecting the scale and complexity of the recovery mission.

The NAF commended the dedication and professionalism of recovery personnel and partner agencies, particularly Hitech Construction Company, for supporting the ongoing operation.

The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, also praised the recovery team for its resilience and professionalism, reaffirming the Service’s commitment to completing the operation safely and methodically.

The Air Force added that recovery efforts were continuing alongside the ongoing investigation into the aircraft accident.

Expressing sympathy with the bereaved families, the Service acknowledged the pain and anguish caused by the tragedy and reiterated its commitment to sustaining recovery operations and providing timely, verified updates.

It also appreciated the patience and cooperation of the Igbokoda community and the continued support of other stakeholders as the operation progresses.
