Golmaal 5 release date: Rohit Shetty sets 8 Jan 2027

After nearly a decade, Rohit Shetty’s ‘Golmaal’ gang is set to return to the big screen. The fifth instalment of the popular comedy franchise has officially been announced, with the makers confirming its theatrical release date.

Headlined by Ajay Devgn and featuring returning franchise favourites including Arshad Warsi, Kunal Kemmu, Sharman Joshi, Shreyas Talpade and Tusshar Kapoor, ‘Golmaal 5’ will also feature Akshay Kumar in a new addition to the ensemble.

Rohit Shetty announces ‘Golmaal 5’ release date

On Saturday, Rohit Shetty took to social media to announce that ‘Golmaal 5’ will release in theatres on January 8, 2027. The announcement was accompanied by a teaser that promises the return of the franchise’s signature chaos, comedy and ensemble madness.Sharing the release date, Rohit wrote, “LAUGHTER, FUN, JOY, HAPPINESS AND FAMILY... BAS, NOTHING ELSE 8TH JAN 2027 .”The makers also shared a note announcing, “2027 is all set to begin with fun, laughter and a whole lot of Golmaal! Get ready for the madness as Golmaal 5 arrives in cinemas on 8th January 2027! New year. New madness. Same Golmaal!”.

Akshay Kumar joins Ajay Devgn and the returning ‘Golmaal’ gang

‘Golmaal 5’ brings back several familiar faces from the franchise. Ajay Devgn will return as Gopal, while Arshad Warsi reprises his role as Madhav.

Tusshar Kapoor is back as Lucky, with Kunal Kemmu returning as Laxman and Shreyas Talpade also reprising his role.Sharman Joshi is also returning to the franchise. He played Laxman in the first ‘Golmaal’ film, ‘Golmaal: Fun Unlimited’, which released in 2006, but did not feature in the subsequent instalments.The film also marks Akshay Kumar’s first appearance in the ‘Golmaal’ franchise. Rohit Shetty had announced Akshay’s addition on the actor’s birthday in March 2026.

Details about his character have not yet been officially revealed, although reports have speculated about him playing an antagonist.

‘Golmaal 5’ shoot began in Ooty

Production on ‘Golmaal 5’ got underway in 2026, with the first schedule taking place in Ooty in April. The makers marked the beginning of filming with a video featuring the cast arriving in the hill station, giving fans a glimpse of the reunited ensemble. By August, reports indicated that the dialogue portions of the film had been completed, with two songs, including the title track, remaining to be filmed.Tusshar Kapoor had earlier marked the completion of his portion of the shoot with a selfie from the sets. Sharing the picture, he wrote, “#Schedulewrapselfie #golmaal5 79 days of hard work, passion, day-night shoots, power naps and holidays! Lekin picture Abhi baaki hai!”

‘Golmaal 5’ marks 20 years of the franchise

The fifth film arrives two decades after the release of the franchise’s first instalment, ‘Golmaal: Fun Unlimited’. Released in 2006, the film established Rohit Shetty’s comedy franchise and introduced audiences to the ensemble of characters that would return across its sequels.

The series subsequently expanded with ‘Golmaal Returns’ in 2008, ‘Golmaal 3’ in 2010 and ‘Golmaal Again’ in 2017. The upcoming fifth instalment therefore arrives as the franchise completes 20 years.Reflecting on the journey earlier, Rohit Shetty had said, “20 years ago, the first Golmaal was released, a film that changed my life. The credit goes to you, my audience. Over the past 20 years, we have entertained you, and yes, sometimes disappointed you, but we have always been honest in our work.”
