4 gripping thrillers you need to read after this month’s Book Club

If you've been watching Dawn's mini book clubs on Instagram, you'll know this month's novel, The Witch by Freida McFadden, went a bit darker. This twist-filled psychological thriller tells the story of a woman who uncovers dark secrets when she moves to her family’s old country estate.
Once again, Dawn invited our Deputy Digital Editor Helen Daly over to dig into the book, with plenty of Dr. Oetker Ristorante pizza on hand for a much-needed weeknight treat.
But what did you think of The Witch? If you enjoyed it as much as Dawn – or you’re just a diehard thriller fan – read on to discover four more equally nail-biting page-turners for you to sink your teeth into.

The Honeymoon Suite

If you loved the creeping suspicion that all is not as it seems in The Witch, The Honeymoon Suite by Rebecca Taylor McKay captures that same feeling through a lens of seductive, old-world glamour. Set on the Amalfi Coast in 1961, it follows newlywed Clara as she arrives for a month-long honeymoon with her wealthy husband, Spencer.
But her paradise quickly starts to unravel when a note is slipped under their hotel room door with a chilling warning: he’s lying to you. Soon Clara is questioning everything she knows about her new husband. Why does he seem so familiar with their hotel? And why does she have the feeling she's being watched?
Such a Nice Girl

For another story that will have you questioning who to trust, try Such a Nice Girl by Andrea Mara – a novel that McFadden herself described as “spine-chilling”. It centres on lifelong friends Siobhan and Grace, who go to wake their 24-year-old daughters the morning after a glamorous wedding, only to discover a smashed lamp, blood on the carpet and both women missing.
Faced with the reality that one of their daughters may have tried to kill the other, the two mothers begin searching for answers together – all while wondering which girl is the victim and which could be a killer.
My Husband’s Wife

Like The Witch, My Husband’s Wife by Alice Feeney will keep you guessing right to the very end. Praised by McFadden for it’s “non-stop thrills”, the story begins when artist Eden returns from a run to find her key no longer fits the door of her new home. And when a woman eerily similar to her answers it, Eden’s husband insists this stranger is his wife.
From there, Feeney weaves a tangled web of deception, obsession and mystery to create a mind-bending thriller where it becomes increasingly difficult to tell who – or what – to believe.
It Could Have Been Her

Another novel that sees a dark past coming to light is It Could Have Been Her by Lisa Jewell. It all begins 25 years earlier, when newly divorced Jane flees a man’s house in Hampstead, after hearing a scream upstairs. Now, decades later, a chance encounter with a lost dog unexpectedly leads her straight back to the same front door.
This time, the dog’s owner is missing – and a glimpse of a distressed-looking woman through the window convinces Jane she needs to investigate. As she begins uncovering the house’s secrets, she can’t escape one terrifying thought: it could have been her.
