In addition to writing articles about these titles and upcoming releases, he also oversees content planning for each, ensuring that ScreenRant continues to cover major releases for months after their release.

He has written various reviews for ScreenRant that appear on Rotten Tomatoes, coordinated Oscars and San Diego Comic-Con coverage, appeared on CNN to talk about Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, and done select interviews with talent over the years.

Scarlett Johansson is one of Hollywood's biggest, most successful, and busiest stars, which is why she has so many upcoming movies. The actress is best known for playing Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and for her Oscar-nominated performances in Jojo Rabbit and Marriage Story, will continue to headline major franchises and awards plays going forward.

This has been her career strategy for years, and Johansson's best movies have come as she continues to thread the needle between doing passion projects, working with acclaimed directors, and headlining some of Hollywood's biggest productions. Her ability to deliver memorable, emotional performances and lofty box office hauls puts her in a rare class among Hollywood's most in-demand stars.

With her time away from the MCU extending with no end in sight (she's not expected to be in Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars), Johansson's schedule has been more open than in years past. But that's just given her the ability to join more exciting projects.

Some of Johansson's upcoming movies are still in the early stages of development, while others are in the midst of production. A few have release dates set in stone. In any case, Johansson's slate means audiences will see a lot of the actress in 2026 and beyond.

8 Paper Tiger

Scarlett Johansson is set to play a pivotal role in the upcoming crime thriller, Paper Tiger. The R-rated movie hails from director James Gray, the mind behind We Own the Night, The Lost City of Z, and Ad Astra. The story follows Gary (Adam Driver) and Irwin Pearl (Miles Teller) as they get involved with the Russian mafia.

Johansson plays Linda Pearl, Irwin's wife. The movie marks a reunion for her and Driver after Marriage Story. Paper Tiger's reviews were mostly positive after it debuted at the Cannes Film Festival, giving it an 87% on Rotten Tomatoes. Paper Tiger is scheduled to hit movie theaters in a limited release on November 13 before expanding wide on November 20.

7 Ray Gunn

Ray Gunn Netflix

Johansson lends her movie star status to Netflix's upcoming animated movie, Ray Gunn. She plays a global multimedia star named Venus Nora, who is part of a new investigation for private eye Raymond Gunn (Sam Rockwell). Ray Gunn comes from director Brad Bird, who has delivered animated classics with The Iron Giant and both Incredibles.

The movie brings Johansson back together with Netflix after Marriage Story. Ray Gunn marks her latest animated film after the Sing franchise and Transformers One. It's also an Iron Man 2 reunion for her and Rockwell, with Michelle Rodriguez, Matt Berry, and Alan Tudyk among the voice cast. Ray Gunn hits Netflix on December 18 after a limited theatrical release on December 4.

6 The Exorcist: Martyrs

The Exorcist is being rebooted in 2027 by director Mike Flanagan, who has delivered horror classics like Doctor Sleep and Netflix shows like The Haunting of Hill House. While that brings Flanagan back together with some familiar stars, like Hamish Linklater, Carla Gugino, and Kate Siegel, Johansson is the one stepping into the lead role.

The officially untitled new The Exorcist sees Johansson play a detective whose son becomes the target of the franchise's demonic entities. It's a whole new iteration of the IP, not connected to any of the films that came before. If all goes well, Johansson could even return for sequels. The Exorcist releases in theaters on March 12, 2027.

5 The Batman: Part II

The MCU may be behind Johansson, but comic book movies aren't. Matt Reeves' long-awaited second installment in the DC franchise brings Robert Pattinson back as Bruce Wayne, but The Batman: Part II's cast includes plenty of new faces. Johansson is one of the biggest, with Sebastian Stan, Charles Dance, and Brian Tyree Henry among Pattinson's fresh co-stars.

Plot details have been kept under wraps for the sequel, which has also left the identity of Johansson's The Batman 2 character a mystery. She has been spotted filming scenes in the winter-set story. The Batman: Part II is currently on the schedule for a February 18, 2028, release date following multiple delays.

4 Scapegoat

Once Johansson has finished her DC commitments, her next movie is already lined up. It was previously reported that she's set to star in Ari Aster's new movie, pairing her with the director of Hereditary, Midsommar, and Eddington. Some reports have indicated Johansson will play a surgeon who suddenly faces backlash after a patient, who was popular on social media, dies during an operation.

Johansson is one of several big names attached to Aster's new film. Jacob Elordi (Frankenstein), Ella Purnell (Fallout), and Jude Law (Black Rabbit) are some of her current co-stars. Scapegoat does not have a release date from A24 so far, but production is expected to begin before 2026 concludes. That could allow the movie to come out in late 2027, especially if A24 views Aster's latest as a potential Oscar contender.

3 Jurassic World: Rebirth Sequel

A sequel to Jurassic World: Rebirth is on the way. The 2025 blockbuster successfully launched a new age for the franchise with Johansson in the lead role as Zora Bennett. Following Jurassic World: Rebirth's strong box office ($872 million), Universal wasted no time getting a sequel moving. It is expected that Johansson will return to star alongside Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali.

Details on the sequel have remained buried, though. David Koepp is back writing the script, but Rebirth's director Gareth Edwards is not returning following creative differences. Universal is currently searching for a new filmmaker to lead the blockbuster sequel into production. Jurassic World: Rebirth's sequel does not have an official release date, but 2028 is likely the target window.

2 Featherwood

It was announced in 2024 that Johansson was set to star in a crime thriller known as Featherwood. The movie explores the true story of FBI informant Carol Blevins as she helps take down the Aryan Brotherhood Of Texas, a Nazi crime syndicate. The news came with Andrea Arnold attached to direct; she previously helmed Fish Tank, American Honey, and episodes of Big Little Lies.

However, the movie took a step back in 2025 when Johansson confirmed that Arnold had left Featherwood. The project has yet to find a replacement director. Since Johansson is also producing the movie, she remains interested in getting the movie made. Whether it comes together in the near future and retains her starpower remains to be seen.

1 Just Cause

Johansson is no longer keeping her talents exclusively for movies, as she's decided to branch into television for the first time. She's set to produce and star in Prime Video's Just Cause, a new adaptation of John Katzenbach's novel of the same name. Johansson will play the lead role in the series, which has been in development since 2022. The actress confirmed in 2024 that it was still moving forward, but no updates have come since.

Question 1 of 3

Beyond marking her first TV role, Just Cause is notable for Johansson because it brings her back to a familiar story. She had one of her first acting roles in a 1995 movie adaptation of the book starring Sean Connery, as she played his daughter. Now, over 30 years later, Scarlett Johansson is poised to get the lead role in a revamped telling of the story. That is, if this project does still get made at some point.
