Geordin Hill-Lewis had been scheduled to vote at the school at 09:00 on Wednesday. He confirmed that he had voted in a post on X.

The DA leader urged registered voters to participate in the election and cast their ballots at the voting station where they are registered – and to vote for the DA.

Voting stations will close at 21:00 on Wednesday.

What Cape Town voters need to know

Voters in the City of Cape Town receive two ballot papers: one to choose a political party for the metropolitan council and another to elect their ward councillor.

Voters must take an acceptable identity document, such as a green bar-coded ID book, smart ID card or valid Temporary Identity Certificate.

The IEC reminds voters to mark their ballots in private and follow the instructions of election officials. Campaigning and attempts to influence voters inside or in the immediate vicinity of voting stations are prohibited.
