Poll: 86% of Game Developer Event's Attendees Say They Use Generative AI

In the CEDEC 2026 survey, 63% said they use generative AI on a daily basis, and 22.8% use it occasionally. 8.6% are introducing or testing it on a trial basis, 0.7% have used it but no longer do, and 4.8% have not used it at all.
The CEDEC 2026 survey also asked respondents about the implementation of generative AI for actually released products and services. Among the 1,284 who responded to this question, 517 (40%) said they do not use generative AI in released products and services. 501 (39%) said they use it in a support capacity in production for the presentation of ideas, trials, or in-house assets, while humans create the final product. 357 (28%) use it to automate workflow or testing, optimizing assets, and similar tasks. 285 (22%) reported using it in generating or modifying assets, 36 (3%) use generative AI-based algorithms in the released products, and 16 (1.2%) cite other uses.

Additionally, 55 CESA member companies responded on where they use AI in general — but excluding generative AI. 20% said they use it for data analysis and forecasting, 15% for supporting Q&A and testing, around 13% for managing the progress of production, 10% for NPC and enemy AI, about 9% for game balance and adjusting difficulty, about 8% for customer support, about 6% for forecasting churn and analyzing retention rate, 5% for fraud and cheating prevention, about 4% for player behavior analysis, about 3% for recommendation features, and around 13% for other uses.
CESA presented the results of both surveys in a 32-page preview edition of its Video Game Industry Report for 2026 on Thursday. The full 460-page CESA Video Game Industry Report is set for release in early December for 55,000 yen (about US$350).
