KEARSNEY COLLEGE MOURNS ACTOR AND ARTIST ALUMNUS

On their social media platforms, Kearsney College shared the tragic news of the passing of their former top student, Ndabenhle Shazi.

They shared: “With deep sadness, we announce the tragic death of a shining Kearsney star and one of our dear brothers. Shazi, also known to family and older friends as Boyo, died in a car accident on the afternoon of Monday, 14 October 2026, near Ermelo. He was laid to rest at the family’s homestead on Saturday.

Affectionately known as “Shazi”, the 2012 matriculant was a distinguished drama student and musical artist who was involved in the school choir and theatre productions that were performed around the world.

This included an international tour to Asia in 2010 and to the World Choir Olympics in Cincinnati, USA, 2012, where the Kearsney College choir won 3 gold medals.

“Shazi made us laugh, cheer, sing and smile over many years. His laugh and personality brought joy to so many. With a heart of gold, he loved his Kearsney brothers and, being based in KZN, often popped in to visit staff members he respected and cared for.

“Shazi, you will always be a Kearsney legend and loved by many around the world. Rest in Peace, ” added the post.

CELEBRATED MUSIC AND DRAMA STUDENT

During his tenure at Kearsney College, Shazi served as chairman of the dance and drama club, head of choreography, and soloist in the school choir. He was also co-head of the Pembroke Inter-House Plays.

During his matric year, he received his colours and honours in music and dramatic arts.

After matriculating, he pursued his love of the performing arts through his entertainment company, SM ENT, where he continued to produce music and DJ under his artist name, Shazi Mayne.

He also graduated with a BCom in Supply Chain Management from the University of Pretoria.
