Govt calls regional information transparency to attract investment

Translate

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs has highlighted regional information transparency as a key factor to attract more investment, as it reflects business certainty and investor confidence.

Expert Staff for Regional Development at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Haryo Limanseto, said investment-related information available in regions needs to be communicated clearly, consistently, and in an easily accessible manner to prospective investors.

"Investment is an important driver of economic growth. Ultimately, all investments flow into the regions and depend heavily on the readiness of the local ecosystem," he said in a statement received in Jakarta on Tuesday.

According to Haryo, the investors need more than just licensing details. They also require information on regional economic profiles and potential, spatial planning, infrastructure, incentives, flagship commodities, local supply chains, as well as the presence of micro, small, and medium enterprises and supporting industries.

In the current context, information transparency has become increasingly vital amid global uncertainty.

He explained that investment also needs to be directed toward high-value-added sectors and projects that create jobs and strengthen regional economies to support the achievement of national economic growth targets.

Therefore, the government continues to strengthen the implementation of the Online Single Submission (OSS) system through Risk-Based Business Licensing, as regulated under Government Regulation No. 28 of 2025.

In addition to strengthening the licensing system, the government is pushing to resolve investment bottlenecks through the Debottlenecking Task Force.

As of August 31, 2026, the task force had received 177 complaints from businesses, with 135 successfully resolved. These complaints covered issues, including licensing, taxation, customs, spatial planning, logistics, and energy.

Information transparency is also needed to optimize the downstreaming potential of regional economies.

Under the 2025–2029 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN), priority downstreaming sectors include mining, plantations, fisheries, and forestry.

A total of 28 priority commodities have investment potential of up to US$618.1 billion, export potential of US$857.9 billion, and are expected to create more than 3 million jobs by 2040.

To boost economic growth, the development of Special Economic Zones (SEZs) continues to be promoted as strategic investment hubs. As of June 2026, 25 SEZs have recorded cumulative investments of around Rp368 trillion (around US$20.6 billion) and created more than 283,000 jobs.

Similarly, Secretary of the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming Rudy Salahuddin said that public information transparency is a shared agenda that requires collaboration and synergy among public institutions.

"With better information governance, we hope to strengthen public trust, foster a high-quality investment climate, and ensure investment and downstreaming policies are well understood and bring tangible benefits to the public," Rudy said.

In line with these efforts, the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs continues to strengthen transparent and high-quality public information governance to support the investment climate and regional development.
