A first look image of Pierfrancesco Favino (Il Traditore, Maria, Rush) in the role of late audacious Fiat-Chrysler automobile exec Sergio Marchionne in Marco Bellocchio’s biopic Falcon has been unveiled.

Rai Cinema International Distribution, which announced it had boarded sales on the picture last month, has posted a first look image as it gears up to introduce the project to sellers at the upcoming American Film Market.

This first look image was taken at the historic Mirafiori plant in Turin, currently undergoing renovation, where Falcon is in production.

The picture delves into Marchionne’s role in reviving Italy’s Turin-based car company Fiat in the 2000s and merging it with then ailing U.S. auto manufacturer Chrysler.

The film opens in 2004, with Fiat on the verge of collapse in the wake of the death of its longtime boss, the legendary industrialist Gianni Agnelli.

Marchionne storms in to save the dying empire. Ruthless and visionary, he axes the top management, nd then teaches Agnelli’s heir John Elkann, played by Louis Garrel, the art of command, before going onto then conquers the American market by fighting General Motors and Chrysler, saving it from bankruptcy.

Bellocchio explores how Marchionne’s audacious business moves won him respect and renown on the worldwide stage but at a personal cost, through a financial thriller with deep psychological insight.

As previously announced the cast also features Benedetta Cimatti, Barbara Ronchi, and the participation of Valeria Bruni Tedeschi.

The screenplay is written by Bellocchio with Ludovica Rampoldi, Andrea Di Stefano, Stefano Rulli and with the participation of Oliviero Del Papa.

The movie will be released in Italy by 01 Distribution.

Previously announced key collaborators include production designer Andrea Castorina, costume designer Daria Calvelli, and editor Francesca Calvelli, all of whom worked on Bellocchio projects The Traitor, Exterior Night and Kidnapped.

Alongside previous collaborators, Bellocchio is joined for the first time by director of photography Matteo Cocco (The Weight, Hidden Away).
