The approval followed the passage of the Sixth Alteration Bill by the National Assembly and its subsequent transmission to the 36 state Houses of Assembly for consideration, as required by the constitutional amendment process.
Speaking shortly after the approval, on Wednesday, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Michael Ogbere, thanked members for their consideration and endorsement of the proposed State Police Services.
In a related development, the House has taken the first readings of two bills: the Ijaw Cultural Heritage Bill and the Retirement Age for Magistrates and Chairmen of Customary Courts Bill, 2026.
The bills are expected to proceed through the legislative process for further consideration by the lawmakers.
