My Chemical Romance Tops the Billboard 200 With 20-Year-Old Album
Twenty years after The Black Parade, My Chemical Romance have carried on with the album all the way to the top of the Billboard 200 chart. The 2006 LP’s anniversary reissue The Black Parade (20th Anniversary Deluxe Edition) nabbed the top slot, marking the rock band’s first Number One album in their nearly 25 years as a band.
The deluxe reissue sold 78,000 equivalent album units across over 20 formats and variants combined to take the top spot, Billboard reports.
Released in 2006, The Black Parade saw the emo band expand their sound on their third album with a fully-fledged rock opera in the vein of Queen that yielded Top Ten hit “Welcome to the Black Parade.” The album debuted at Number Two on the albums chart in 2006 upon the album’s release. In the two decades since then, The Black Parade has become a seminal rock record of the 21st century.
My Chemical Romance celebrated the album’s 20th anniversary with a full reissue The Black Parade (20th Anniversary Edition) on Oct. 23. The physical sales propelled the album to the top of the charts. On Friday, the band scored their first Number One on the U.K.’s official album chart.

Notably, the rockers’ 20-year-old album beat out Olivia Rodrigo’s You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So In Love on the Billboard 200 chart. On Wednesday, after midweek predictions showed My Chem winning by a thousand sales, the pop star cheered on the band by posting a clip from their show at New York’s Citi Field, which she attended earlier this year. “🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷 @mychemicalromance🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷,” Rodrigo captioned the Instagram story. At that same show, the singer-songwriter met the band and snapped photos with them backstage.
My Chem’s big win comes as they are in the middle of celebrating The Black Parade with their extended Long Live the Black Parade tour, which kicked off in 2025. Though the band ran into a bit of legal trouble with the Dallas Cowboys cheerleading team, the tour has been a career-defining feat. Last year, they performed at their hometown stadium in New Jersey and even took the show to London’s Wembley Stadium for two sold-out nights. The band’s feat on the chart not only cements The Black Parade as a timeless record, it also reinforces My Chemical Romance’s status as rock icons — and their unstoppable comeback.
