Oregon Ducks has fired its offensive coordinator following the team's 21-10 loss to Illinois on October 24. The decision came after the Ducks struggled to produce points in three consecutive games.

Oregon dismisses offensive coordinator after Illinois loss

Oregon has fired offensive coordinator Drew Mehringer following its 21-10 loss to Illinois on Saturday. On3 reporter Pete Nakos reported the decision. The Ducks hold a 4-3 overall record and a 2-2 mark in Big Ten play.

Oregon Ducks head coach Dan Lanning, left, talks to Oregon Ducks offensive coordinator Drew Mehringer before the game as the Oregon Ducks host the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Oct. 17, 2026, at Autzen Stadium in Eugene, Oregon.

Oregon produced 42 total points across its last three games. The Ducks lost to UCLA, defeated Nebraska and then fell to Illinois.

Against Illinois, Oregon led 10-0 at halftime but did not score again. Illinois scored 21 unanswered points to win 21-10. The Ducks finished with 426 total yards but converted just four of 15 third-down attempts.

After the loss, Nakos reported the move in a social media post, writing: "Oregon has dismissed offensive coordinator Drew Mehringer."

Quarterback Dylan Raiola completed 27 of 41 passes for 246 yards against Illinois. Running back Jordon Davison recorded 92 rushing yards, while Dierre Hill added 83. Wide receiver Dakorien Moore caught nine passes for 70 yards.

Oregon has also played without starting quarterback Dante Moore for three consecutive games. Moore suffered a concussion against USC, leaving Dylan Raiola and Brock Thomas to handle quarterback duties during his absence.

Mehringer joined head coach Dan Lanning's staff in January 2022 as the team's tight ends coach. He later became co-offensive coordinator while continuing to coach tight ends. For the 2026 season, he took over as Oregon's full-time offensive coordinator after Will Stein left the program to become Kentucky's head coach.

During the 2025 season, when Mehringer served as co-offensive coordinator, Oregon averaged 36.9 points and 452.2 total yards per game.

Lanning announced Mehringer's departure in an official statement on October 25. He thanked Mehringer for his work with the program, acknowledged his contributions over several seasons and said he believed the offense needed a new direction.

Lanning said, "This was a decision I felt was in the best interest of our football program, as I believe a new direction is necessary to move our offense forward."

Oregon has not announced who will replace Mehringer as offensive coordinator or take over offensive play-calling duties.

The Ducks are scheduled to host Northwestern at Autzen Stadium on October 31. Their remaining regular-season opponents also include Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State and Washington.
