New ‘Sesame Street’ Film In Works, More ‘Gabby’s Dollhouse’, ‘Bad Dinosaurs’ In Netflix’s Kids Slate

Netflix unveiled its preschool and kids slate Thursday, which includes more Sesame Street, a new Gabby’s Dollhouse series and more.

The streamer revealed it is currently in development on a new Sesame Street film with Rideback and Sesame Workshop. No details were disclosed. The last Sesame Street feature film was The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland, which was released in October 1999. It was preceded by Sesame Street Presents: Follow That Bird, released in August 1985.

Netflix and Sesame Workshop also announced they’ve extended their deal on the series side, which will bring additional seasons of the show through Season 62. Season 57 Volume 4 premieres November 23 with Volumes 5 and 6 coming in 2027. The licensed CGI animated series Mecha Builders will premiere on October 26.

The world of Gabby’s Dollhouse also is expanding with new mixed-media companion series Doozie’s Doghouse, starring Gabby’s sister Doozie, premiering November 9. Gabby’s Dollhouse: Makers and Bakers premieres December 9 with four holiday episodes hosted by Laila Lockhart Kraner as Gabby and judges Aidy Bryant, Justin Willman and Melissa Villaseñor. It will continue with new episodes in 2027.

Netflix announced new preschool series Puppy Pirates, from creator Matthew Fernandes. In it, four heroic hounds sail the high seas fetching whatever’s been lost — treasure, stuffies, you name it. Premiere date TBA. Additionally, Bad Dinosaurs, from creators Joel Veitch, Alex Mallinson and David Shute, has been renewed for seasons 2 and 3, with eight episodes each.

Three new games also are joining Netflix Playground’s library – Trash Truck, featuring Hank and the crew, launching October 27; Numberblocks: Hide and Seek, which tests kids’ counting skills, on September 29; and KPop Demon Hunters: Ready, Set, Shine also on September 29.
