Most areas record moderate air quality amid transboundary haze

KUALA LUMPUR: Most areas in the country recorded moderate air quality readings amid transboundary haze as of this morning.
According to the Department of Environment's Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS), only the air quality monitoring station in Sri Manjung, Perak, recorded an unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) reading of 108 as of 9.20am today.
Data from APIMS showed that 67 other air quality monitoring stations nationwide recorded moderate API readings.
They included Cheras and Batu Muda here, which recorded API readings of 93 and 81 respectively, and Putrajaya, which recorded an API reading of 79.
In Selangor, air quality monitoring stations in Shah Alam, Klang, Johan Setia, Petaling Jaya, Kuala Selangor and Banting recorded moderate API readings.
Other areas that recorded moderate API readings included Nilai, Seremban and Port Dickson in Negri Sembilan.
Only five air quality monitoring stations, mostly in Sarawak and Sabah, recorded good API readings.
Earlier today, it was reported that Indonesia continues to battle forest and land fires across four provinces, with fires still affecting over 72ha.
Joint firefighting teams, backed by aerial support, extinguished nearly 3,800ha of forest and land fires across six priority provinces over the past week.
National Disaster Mitigation Agency Disaster Data, Information and Communication Centre acting head Berton Panjaitan said the remaining affected areas were in South Sumatra, Central Kalimantan, Jambi and West Kalimantan as of Wednesday.
