Exclusive: Hollyoaks confirms Sienna's new role in dark Dee Dee and Abigail story

Hollyoaks bosses have decided to give Sienna Blake a bigger role in Dee Dee Hutchinson's grooming storyline, Digital Spy can exclusively reveal.

Sienna will become a new nemesis for Abigail Matthews after landing a job at Hollyoaks High in the coming weeks.

Abigail is currently abusing her position as a teacher at the school to groom vulnerable teenager Dee Dee in disturbing scenes.

Headteacher Nancy Osborne hasn't noticed the warning signs about her employee's behaviour, while Dee Dee's dad Tony has also put his trust in Abigail.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy about the next stages of the storyline, Hollyoaks producer Hannah Cheers commented: "Sienna becomes more involved in that story and starts working at the school, so there's lots of fun to be had with her and Nancy's dynamic.

"Sienna gets a job as Nancy's PA. I love that they've come so far after 12 years, after everything that happened when Sienna tried to steal Nancy's life!

"At first Sienna is just trying to get her head around Nancy's paperwork systems – but she also becomes a bit of a thorn in Abigail's side. It's very enjoyable to watch."

She continued: "Nancy also starts a teachers' WhatsApp group and tries to really embed the female staff presence at the school.

"There's a lot of really nice tones to explore there and relationships that I'm excited to watch unfold. I hope the audience come along with it too."

Viewers have already seen Sienna try to offer support to Dee Dee, believing that the schoolgirl may be struggling with her sexuality.

Sienna has also developed an unexpected connection to Tony, after the dynamic between them took a romantic turn a few weeks ago.

Cheers continued: "I'm compelled by the Abigail and Dee Dee storyline – and how brilliantly it's coming out in terms of the performances. We'll continue to shine a light on that issue and the abuse of power.

"Dee Dee is still grieving following the loss of her mum Diane – it's not a linear journey when you're dealing with something like that. It's caused problems for the Hutchinson family and we've seen the whole community rallying round, but also the community being duped by Abigail.

"We have two interweaving plots with Abigail and Dee Dee, and Kathleen-Angel and Ant, that very much tell the story of what it's like to be a teenager. I'm really enjoying the combination of all of those characters."

Cheers was recently promoted to the position of creative director at Hollyoaks' production company, Lime Pictures.

With Cheers now set to take a less hands-on role in the show's day-to-day running as she'll be developing her own programmes, Si Wall has been promoted as Hollyoaks' executive producer.

Hollyoaks airs on Mondays-Wednesdays with its Channel 4 streaming premiere at 7am, then an E4 broadcast the same night at 7pm. Full episodes are also released on YouTube a week after their Channel 4 release.
