Rajkiran gets anticipatory bail from HC in Rs 40 lakh film advance case

Actor Rajkiran has been granted anticipatory bail by the Madras High Court in connection with a case involving an alleged non-refund of Rs 40 lakh paid as a film advance. Justice N Ramesh passed the order after hearing Rajkiran’s plea seeking protection from arrest.

As part of the bail conditions, the actor has been directed to appear before the concerned police station and sign for 15 days.The case stems from an advance paid for a proposed film project that did not eventually go into production.

Rajkiran’s anticipatory bail plea in Rs 40 lakh film advance case

According to a News18 report, the dispute came to light after producer Saravanan, who runs a film production company in Minjur, approached the police over the alleged outstanding amount.

The complaint reportedly states that Saravanan paid Rajkiran Rs 50 lakh in 2022 as an advance for a proposed film.After the project failed to take off, the producer sought the return of the advance. During discussions before the Tamil Film Producers Council, Rajkiran reportedly returned Rs 10 lakh in 2025. Saravanan subsequently alleged that the remaining Rs 40 lakh had not been repaid and lodged a complaint at Minjur police station in September 2025.

Rajkiran challenges criminal case over film agreement

Following an order from the Ponneri Magistrate Court, a case was registered against Rajkiran on August 28. The actor subsequently approached the Madras High Court seeking anticipatory bail.In his petition, Rajkiran reportedly argued that the dispute originated from a film agreement entered into in 2022 and maintained that the matter was essentially civil in nature but had been given a criminal dimension. He also submitted that he had no intention of evading the legal process.

Madras High Court grants Rajkiran anticipatory bail with conditions

After considering the submissions, Justice N Ramesh granted Rajkiran anticipatory bail. The court directed the actor to appear at the concerned police station and sign for 15 days as a condition of the relief.The order protects Rajkiran from arrest in connection with the case while the investigation continues. The underlying dispute over the alleged outstanding Rs 40 lakh remains to be addressed through the legal process.
