AI-Produced Series ‘Space Nation’ and ‘Kira’ to Premiere Pilot Episodes at Mipcom (EXCLUSIVE)

Two science-fiction series produced with generative AI, “Space Nation” and “Kira,” will have the world premieres of their pilot episodes at TV market Mipcom, which takes place next week in Cannes.

Both shows are produced by Ex Machina Studios and are being sold worldwide by K5 Intl.

The companies told Variety that, to their knowledge, it is the first time fully produced AI-generated series episodes – not concept reels or previews – have been screened for buyers at a major international market.

The pilots screen for buyers on Oct. 12 and Oct. 13 at the Cinéma Les Arcades, a short walk from the Palais des Festivals.

“Space Nation,” co-produced by Utopai Studios and Globoplay, was introduced to buyers for the first time at Mipcom last year. In May 2026, at the Cannes Film Market, Globoplay – the streaming service of Globo, Latin America’s largest media group – came on board as co-producer and acquired Brazilian rights, making the series a Globoplay Original.

The series, which comprises eight 45-minute episodes, is set in the near future, at a time when humanity’s survival rests on a new generation of elite pilots. As Earth faces an overwhelming alien threat, these young aviators are thrown into relentless combat that tests their loyalty, courage and faith in one another.

“Space Nation” is created by Ex Machina Studios co-founder and CEO Marco Weber and Martin Weisz, who directs all eight episodes. It is written by Vanessa Coifman. The executive producers are Marco Weber and Coifman. It was produced out of Los Angeles in “active alignment with the Hollywood guilds,” according to a statement from the company.

“Kira,” announced in August, is Ex Machina Studios’ second series and a French production. The epic sci-fi fantasy series, which comprises six 35-minute episodes, is created and directed by Lyon-born filmmaking duo Damien Steck and Julien Petit (“Cherry,” Tribeca Festival. It was written by Steck, Petit and Moritz Weber, and is executive produced by Marco Weber.

“Kira” is set in the far future, on the living planet Djena, where Kira, a young girl with a great destiny, makes her way across a constantly shifting landscape and through rival factions to find her missing father and restore balance to her world.

Together with Ex Machina’s theatrical slate – Roger Avary’s “Paradise Lost” and Alex Proyas’ “Heaven,” launched with Mayfair Media Group – the two series make K5 Intl. the first, and to date the only, world sales company to represent a full slate of AI-generated series and feature films, it said.

K5 Intl.’s sales team will be present throughout Mipcom.

Daniel Baur, CEO, K5 Intl. said, “A year after we first introduced ‘Space Nation’ at Mipcom, we return to Cannes with a completed pilot, Globoplay on board as co-producer, and a second series, ‘Kira,’ alongside it. Both are filmmaker-driven series – strong scripts, distinct worlds, directors with a clear vision – produced with generative AI and screening as finished episodes.”
