Alan Ritchson and Owen Wilson’s comedy actioner Runner was released in theaters on September 11. The film was released alongside newcomers Practical Magic 2 and The Uprising. The film had a slow start at the box office. However, it is expected to pick up because of the positive word of mouth it received on the opening day and from the preview shows. The previews were held a week prior to the release.

On CinemaScore, the Scott Waugh directorial received an A-, which is a strong score for an actioner, on par with Wrath of Man and The Equalizer and above Nobody 2, The Beekeeper, and even Christopher Nolan’s Tenet. The critics gave it 70% on the Rotten Tomatoes site as well.

How Much Did Runner Earn On Its Opening Day?

The film had a slow start at the box office, collecting $2.5 million on Friday. The film was played in 2,568 screens across the USA. The opening day collection also includes the preview collections from a week ago. The film’s opening day collection is higher than Brave: The Dark ($930K), Sight ($1.1 million), The Shift ($1.8 million), and The Last Rodeo ($2.1 million).

Runner debuted at #2 at the domestic box office, behind Sandra Bullock’s Practical Magic 2. The popular Hollywood sequel earned $13 million on its opening day. The spooky comedy, co-starring Nicole Kidman, will be dominating the opening weekend.

How Much Will Runner Make On Its Opening Weekend?

At the current pace, Runner is expected to earn in the range of $3-6 million during the opening weekend. If the film sees massive word-of-mouth, the collections can go upwards of $8 million. It is a modest opening for an action comedy, but it has a strong cast, and solid word of mouth could push the film into the successful side. However, its budget is still unknown, so we cannot calculate its break-even target. The audience rating on the Rotten Tomatoes site is still under wraps.

More About The Movie

As betrayal and danger close in, they must survive the deadly manhunt and complete their mission to save a little girl’s life. Runner was released on September 11.
