Spoilers ahead for Reacher season 4, episode 5.Alan Ritchson's Reacher has been leaving behind a long trail of blood since season 1. He has a strict moral code and always does what is right. However, he does not shy away from brutally killing those who stand in his way. In season 1 itself, he gouged eyes, broke limbs, and even snapped a man's neck.

In season 2, he suffocated a man by forcing his head down rapidly drying cement. He even broke into a hospital and tortured one of the bad guys to death. With just one blow to the head, Jack Reacher mercilessly murdered a man in season 3 and eventually took down the colossal Paulie.

Surprisingly, despite having such a long history of ruthlessly dispatching people, Reacher has never faced legal consequences.

To some degree, it has almost seemed unrealistic that Alan Ritchson's Jack Reacher is able to keep such a low profile even after leaving so many bodies in his wake. Reacher season 4, however, is the first installment in the series that does not let him get away with his acts of violence. It seems evident that after season 4's episode 5, he will never be the same.

Jack Reacher’s Trail Of Blood Has Finally Caught Up With Him In Season 4

Jack Reacher's primary appeal comes from his embodiment of the "mysterious stranger" trope. In all previous seasons, he has operated more as a "ghost," leaving no traces of his vigilantism behind. He has wandered from town to town without facing the consequences of his own actions.

In Reacher season 4's episode 5, however, his multiple run-ins with law enforcement have reached a breaking point.

The episode begins with Reacher getting arrested by Philadelphia PD. When a corrupt operative tries to take advantage of the situation, Reacher shows no mercy towards him and assaults him in a way that makes his entire right ear fall off. Moments later, he finds his name and face across local and national news broadcasts.

Every major news channel touts him as a "wanted fugitive," which completely shatters his previous anonymity.

His face becomes so recognizable in episode 5 that even random people on a bus identify him. In the original Jack Reacher books, the titular character never ends up becoming this widely recognizable. He keeps his head down, serves justice to wrongdoers, and escapes before anyone can connect him to the central crimes.

Reacher season 4, in contrast, has completely flipped this. He now has a massive digital footprint. Even if he manages to save the day and clear his image before season 4 ends, he will still be a widely recognizable face to law enforcement and the public.

After Reacher's new rise to infamy, it will not be possible for him to simply disappear into crowds. Especially in big cities, someone is bound to recognize him. Owing to this, he will have to keep a low profile and live in smaller towns before the dust settles. Interestingly, Reacher season 5 already has the perfect setup for this.

Reacher season 5 is adapting Lee Child's Make Me. The book unfolds in a quaint Midwestern town called Mother's Rest that is largely cut off from the outside world. If the show stays true to the book, Mother's Rest could be the perfect place for Jack Reacher to stay off the radar for a while. Even then, however, he has become a little too "visible" to ever truly go back to the way things were.

After Reacher season 4's new developments, it seems fair to conclude that Alan Ritchson's character will never be the same mysterious lone-wolf. He can still hide away in a small town but never simply vanish without trace and endlessly live like a hobo.
