People’s Prosperity Party (PPP) leader Eliud Owalo says his focus is now on strengthening the party at the grassroots and nationwide after the political outfit secured full registration.

Following the development, PPP is now free to field candidates for all elective positions in the 2027 General Election.

Mr Owalo, who intends to seek the party’s presidential nomination, said the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) had issued PPP with a certificate of full registration.

“We have now been fully registered, and our focus is on strengthening the party at the grassroots and moving it forward. Our main aim is to change the leadership of this country, and henceforth, we will embark on a nationwide campaign to convince Kenyans of our mandate if we take up the leadership of this country,” Mr Owalo, the former ICT Cabinet Secretary, told Nation.

The development allows the party to prepare to contest the presidency, parliamentary seats, governorships and county assembly positions across the country.

Mr Owalo said the party would conduct free and fair nominations for those seeking elective seats through it. He also called on Kenyans to support the party as it seeks to grow into a much bigger political outfit.

“Following our registration, we want to assure all aspiring candidates that Kenyans will have a say in who wins the party ticket in the nominations. That is democracy, and that is what we stand for as we seek the leadership of this country,” he added.

In a statement, PPP said it had met and exceeded the legal requirements for full registration under the Political Parties Act, 2011.

The party was issued with a provisional registration certificate on June 26, 2026, and given 180 days to meet the conditions required to attain full registration.

Among the requirements were having at least 1,000 registered members in each of at least 24 counties, reflecting regional and ethnic diversity, gender balance and representation of special interest groups, including youth, women, persons with disabilities and minorities.

The party was also required to establish a national headquarters, branch offices in at least 24 counties and county-level executive committees.

PPP said it had fulfilled these conditions and established party structures in 30 counties, in addition to its headquarters along Mucai Drive in Nairobi.

The registration comes as political parties face a series of deadlines set by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) ahead of the August 10, 2027 General Election.

Parties were required to submit the names and specimen signatures of their authorised officials to the commission by October 15, 2026, while their nomination rules must be certified by the Registrar of Political Parties by October 30 and submitted to the IEBC by November 6.

The electoral timetable further requires parties to submit their membership lists and details of aspirants seeking to contest party primaries by March 16, 2027.

Primaries and the resolution of internal nomination disputes must be completed by May 8, 2027, ahead of the formal nomination of candidates by the IEBC between May 29 and June 11.

Mr Owalo is expected to use the party platform to pursue his presidential ambitions in the August 10, 2027 General Election.

The party also plans to field candidates for other elective positions across the country as it seeks to expand its national presence ahead of the polls.
