Tenerife player in intensive care after goalkeeper collision

Translate

Tenerife player Jesus de Miguel is in intensive care following a heavy collision with an opponent on Monday in a Spanish second division match against Andorra.

The 30-year-old forward is in a “stable but serious condition”, his club said in a statement, after he was clattered by visiting Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono.

In the final minutes of the match, with the score tied at 2-2, De Miguel was fouled in the middle of the pitch by Owono, who had raced out of his goal and was sent off, and the game was subsequently abandoned.

Spanish media said the Tenerife player suffered a cardiac arrest on the way to hospital in the ambulance and was resuscitated.

“We want to send all our strength and best wishes to Jesus de Miguel after the serious incident suffered during today’s match,” said Andorra in a statement.

“We hope he recovers soon. A very big hug to the player, his family and Tenerife.”
