Police set to file parricide raps vs 15-year-old boy over ma’s killing

PANGLAO, BOHOL, Philippines — A 15-year-old boy who admitted killing his own mother in Barangay Looc, Panglao, Bohol, is expected to face a parricide complaint before the prosecutor’s office within the week, police said.

Police Captain Kentbel Ceasar Parcon, chief of the Panglao Municipal Police Station, said investigators are rushing the preparation of documents needed to file the case.

“We will file the case with the prosecutor’s office within this week,” Parcon said on Tuesday.

He assured that police have gathered sufficient evidence to support the case and help secure justice for the victim, identified as Rhea Hormiguera, 46, a single mother.

The teenager has been turned over to the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) of Panglao because of his age.

Parcon said authorities are considering transferring him to the Bohol Youth Home in Cortes, a facility designated for children in conflict with the law (CICL), where minors are kept separate from adult persons deprived of liberty.

Based on the investigation, the boy allegedly attacked his mother with a hammer following an argument at their home after she reprimanded him for cutting classes.

The confrontation reportedly turned physical, prompting the teenager to get a hammer and strike his mother several times in the head.

After the killing, he allegedly dragged her body about 30 meters from their house and dumped it inside an abandoned septic tank, which he covered with stones.

Investigators said the victim’s duster came off while her body was being dragged to the septic tank.

The hammer allegedly used in the killing was recovered by police after the teenager told investigators he had hidden it under the kitchen sink.

Hormiguera’s body was discovered at around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 31, after a neighbor and relative noticed blowflies hovering near the abandoned septic tank.

Police also learned that the teenager was reportedly a good student and an athlete, with no known vices or regular circle of friends. He was also found to have reached a high level in the online game Roblox. /cb
