Mount Rinjani creates Rp443 bln economic impact for local communities

Mataram, NTB (ANTARA) - Tourism and ecosystem services at Mount Rinjani National Park generated an economic turnover of Rp443 billion (approximately US$24.37 million) for surrounding communities between 2021 and 2025.
Speaking during a working visit by delegates from the Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas) here on Wednesday, Head of the Mount Rinjani National Park Office (BTNGR) Budhy Kurniawan said park-related activities produced an average economic multiplier ratio of 3.7.
This means every single rupiah spent by visitors at Mount Rinjani generated up to 3.7 times that value in economic circulation, directly benefiting local communities and supporting sectors such as lodging, transportation, food and dining, as well as porter and trekking services.
"This significant multiplier effect demonstrates that Mount Rinjani delivers wide-ranging benefits for local livelihoods and the regional economy, while simultaneously establishing a crucial foundation for sustainable conservation funding," Kurniawan said.
Beyond community-level impact, the park contributed Rp96.9 billion (US$5.33 million) in non-tax state revenue (PNBP) collected between 2021 and September 2026.
Kurniawan noted that state revenue from the renowned volcanic destination — located on Lombok Island in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province — has maintained a steep upward trajectory in recent years.
"Based on our statistical records, non-tax state revenue stood at Rp577.5 million (US$31,776) in 2021 and surged sharply to Rp4.9 billion (US$269,615) in 2022," he said.
The strong growth continued in subsequent years, with receipts climbing to Rp14.7 billion (US$808,847) in 2023, Rp22.5 billion (US$1.24 million) in 2024, and Rp25.9 billion (US$1.42 million) in 2025.
"Most recently, as of September 2026, PNBP of BTNGR reached an all-time high of Rp28.3 billion (US$1.56 million). This growth reflects improved nature tourism management as well as sustained domestic and international visitor interest in Mount Rinjani," Kurniawan added.
