KUALA LUMPUR: Wong Kar Gee delivered Malaysia's fifth gold medal at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Para Games after winning the men's long jump T12.

The Kota Kinabalu local's leap of 6.74 metres saw him clinch his first gold medal in the Asian Para Games at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium on Thursday.

He posted his winning distance on his opening attempt, before clearing 6.60m, 6.47m, 6.36m, 6.39m, and 6.40m on his remaining jumps.

The victory marked an upgrade for the 35-year-old, who previously claimed silver in the same event at the 2018 Jakarta edition.

Uzbekistan's Sevinchbek Khusanov secured the silver with a 6.54m jump, while host nation representative Daiki Ishiyama took the bronze with 6.48m.

However, the final result is subject to an official protest launched by Omani athlete Othman Al Habsi, who ended his series with no valid mark.
