Miley Wants to Be Saved by a ‘Different Religion’ in Cinematic New Video

Miley has dropped the scorching video for “Different Religion,” her new single from her 10th studio album, Bass Persuades.

Directed by Mert Alas, the cinematic visual opens on a desert road flanked by mountains, a car speeds through, which is later revealed to be driven by Miley. “I got my own god,” she declares while caressing her face, bathed in red light. “He drives a fast car.” Later she’s seen rocking a guitar and in black and white. “I’ve got my own god/My god’s a hot boy,” she sings as a hot boy, model Charlie Knepper, indeed joins her for the joy ride.

“I want to be saved by a different religion/I crave to believe him,” goes the chorus. “We don’t need forgiveness/I want to be saved by a different religion.”

Model/Actriz’s Cole Haden and Miley take turns on other verses, as different models mouth along to the words in the video. They sultrily sing together, “In the rear view/Every passing exit/My faith is his hard body, cracked leather.”

Rolling Stone’s review of the Bass Persuades described the song as “a gothic pop song about a man who drives a fast car and makes loud noise. ‘I’ve got my own god,’ Cyrus sings. ‘My god’s a hot boy.’ If her love is anything like the battering sound of the track, it must be intense, even if its lyrics betray the feeling.”

The video comes on the heels of Bass Persuades hitting Number One on the Billboard 200 albums chart, her first LP to top the chart since she released Bangerz in 2013.
