The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) says it will unveil its National Campaign Council and present its statement of account at its third National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for Monday, October 26, in Abuja.

The party said the presentation of its financial statement was part of its commitment to transparency and accountability, challenging other  political parties, particularly the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), to disclose details of their finances.

The announcement was contained in a statement signed by the NDC National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, Esq.

According to the statement, the meeting will hold at JD Event Centre, Kashim Ibrahim Way, opposite A-Class Park, Maitama, Abuja, at 10am.

“A major highlight of the meeting will be the release and presentation of the party’s Statement of Account by the National Treasurer. This is in deference to our avowed commitment to the principles of transparency and accountability,” the statement said.

The party challenged the APC and other political parties to follow its example in the management and disclosure of their finances.

“In this regard, we challenge other political parties, especially the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), to emulate this level of openness and transparency in the management of their finances,” it added.

The NDC also addressed speculation about its finances, saying its resources would have been more substantial but for the inability of many of its candidates to pay for nomination forms.

The party attributed the situation to the economic hardship in the country, claiming that about 80 per cent of its candidates could not afford the expression of interest forms.

“However, contrary to speculations in the public domain, and due to the level of poverty, hunger and deprivation in the country occasioned by the rudderless APC and its amorphous economic policies, about 80% of our candidates could not afford the Expression of Interest forms,” the statement said.

It added that the party issued the forms free of charge to the affected candidates.

The NDC further disclosed that the meeting would feature the unveiling of its National Campaign Council (NCC), which it said would cover campaigns for the presidential, National Assembly, governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections.

The party also said its candidates would receive certificates of return for their respective offices.

Describing itself as prepared for the 2027 general election, the NDC said it was determined to offer Nigerians what it called altruistic leadership.

“The NDC is turbo-charged and ready to give Nigerians the altruistic leadership the nation deserves,” the statement said.
