KUCHING, Nov 2 — DAP will contest seven seats in Kuching and Bau areas in the upcoming 13th Sarawak State Election, said its state chairman Chong Chieng Jen.

According to Chong, who chaired the party’s state committee meeting earlier yesterday, the seven confirmed seats are Padungan, Pending, Batu Kitang, Kota Sentosa, Batu Kawah, Tasik Biru and Opar.

“We are also considering Batu Lintang as a possible eighth seat.

“Our focus remains on bringing more voices into the State Legislative Assembly and ensuring stronger checks and balances for the people of Sarawak,” he posted on Facebook yesterday.

Chong said the party would announce its decisions on the seats in Sibu, Sarikei, Bintulu and Miri within the next one to two weeks.

In the 12th Sarawak State Election held in 2021, DAP only won two out of 26 seats it contested, namely Padungan dan Pending.

Ruling coalition Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) swept 76 of the 82 seats contested, while Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) won four seats.

The Election Commission (EC) will hold a special meeting on November 6 to discuss key dates for the 13th Sarawak state election. — Bernama
