Day-long brownout hits parts of South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat

TUPI, South Cotabato — A day-long power supply interruption on Sunday struck parts of South Cotabato and Sultan Kudarat due to preventive maintenance operations.

This prompted some residents in areas served by the South Cotabato I Electric Cooperative (SOCOTECO I) to head to spring resorts to escape the heat.The National Grid Corp of the Philippines (NGCP) earlier said the outage was scheduled from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and affected SOCOTECO I’s franchise area, which included parts of South Cotabato and Sultan Kudarat.The NGCP said the shutdown was requested by SOCOTECO I to make way for scheduled activities inside the NGCP Tacurong Substation.They also carried out maintenance work along the Tacurong-San Roque 69-kilovolt transmission line during the shutdown.NGCP said the electric cooperative determines the specific areas affected by the interruption. Power will be restored once SOCOTECO I gives clearance for re-energization.
