Air Ghana Foundation commissions 14-seater toilet facility at Attakrom Amanfro

Air Ghana Limited, through the Air Ghana Foundation, has commissioned and handed over a 14-seater community toilet facility to residents of Attakrom Amanfro in the Eastern Region.

The facility, constructed as part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, is expected to improve sanitation and public health in the predominantly pineapple-farming community.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by the chief and people of Attakrom Amanfro, local authorities, the wife of Air Ghana’s late founder, Mrs Karen Traboulsi, and staff of the company.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chief Executive Officer of Air Ghana, Karim Michael Traboulsi, said the project was undertaken in memory of his late father, Marwan Traboulsi, who founded Air Ghana about 33 years ago.

He said the late founder began his working life as a farmer at Insakyi, a farming community near the project area, before moving into the air cargo business.

According to Mr Traboulsi, his father subsequently helped transport fruits, including pineapples, from Ghana to European markets.

He said the sanitation project therefore held special significance because of its connection to his father’s background in agriculture and Air Ghana’s role in facilitating the export of Ghanaian produce.

Community identified need
Chief Operating Officer of Air Ghana, Hans Asiedu Ansah, said the project followed consultations with the chiefs, elders, assembly member and residents of Attakrom Amanfro.

He said the consultations were aimed at identifying the community’s most pressing needs, with residents identifying the need for a modern toilet facility.

The Foundation subsequently committed to the project, with the sod-cutting ceremony held on May 27, 2026.

Mr Ansah said the facility was completed in just over four months and handed over to the community.

He said the project reflected Air Ghana Foundation’s motto, “A Shared Sky, a Shared Responsibility”, and its commitment to responding to needs identified by communities.

The facility has 14 seats and includes water closets designated for older persons and persons with disabilities, while squat pans are available for other users.

The company said the facility was designed to be accessible to all members of the community and would support improved sanitation practices and a cleaner environment.

Community pledges maintenance
The chief of Attakrom Amanfro, Nana Obirikorang Yeboah III expressed appreciation to Air Ghana for the project and pledged that the community would ensure the facility remained clean, functional and beneficial to residents.

He said the community would take responsibility for maintaining the facility and protecting the investment.

The ceremony was also attended by Air Ghana staff and other stakeholders, including Municipal Chief Executive Paul Osae Offei and Assembly Member Prince Apietu Appiah.

Air Ghana acknowledged the contribution of Alister Djimatey, whose guidance and consultation supported the CSR team during the project.

The company also expressed appreciation to the Municipal Chief Executive and his team for assistance with the necessary permits and support throughout the project.

Air Ghana said the project formed part of its broader commitment to community development and responsible corporate citizenship.
