Delhi captain and Lucknow Super Giants batter Ayush Badoni is making a habit of the extraordinary. On Tuesday, he struck his second consecutive First-Class double-century, reaching the landmark off 216 balls against Jharkhand in the Ranji Trophy.
Last week, at Delhi’s first home game of the season at the Air Force Ground in Palam, Badoni had plundered a career-best 217 against Gujarat. Now, he has followed it up with another monumental effort, putting Delhi in a position of strength.
The 26-year-old has been unstoppable this season. Across four innings, he has amassed more than 500 runs at an average of 168.66. An 85 against Bengal set the tone before his 217 against Gujarat announced his arrival in emphatic fashion.
This was Badoni’s fourth First-Class double-century overall. He is the 21st Indian to score back-to-back double-centuries in the format, following in the footsteps of Kumar Shri Ranjitsinhji, the legendary cricketer after whom the Ranji Trophy is named.
Ranjitsinhji remains the only Indian to have achieved the feat twice, recording successive double-centuries in 1900 and 1901.
