Bank holiday this week: When and where will banks remain shut from October 19 to 25? Check state-wise list

Bank holidays this week

India has officially entered the festive season, with celebrations lined up one after another. But while the calendar fills up with festivals, bank customers may want to keep an eye on another list: the October bank holidays. Before setting out for a branch visit, it is worth checking whether the bank is open or taking a festive break.Bank holidays in October will vary across cities and states, depending on regional observances and festivals. Customers planning large cash deposits, cheque processing, demand drafts or other branch-dependent work should check the holiday schedule for their particular location and plan accordingly.

When and where will banks remain shut this week?

Monday, October 19Banks are closed in Tripura, Mizoram, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Assam, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Nagaland, West Bengal, Bihar, and Jharkhand for Dussehra (Mahashtami), Maha Navami, Ayutha Pooja, Durga Puja, Vijaya Dashomi, and Durga Ashtami.Tuesday, October 20Banks are closed in Tripura, Gujarat, Mizoram, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Chandigarh, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Assam, Telangana, Arunachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Nagaland, West Bengal, Delhi, Goa, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Meghalaya, Himachal Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh for Dasara/Dusshera (Vijaya Dashmi), Maha Navami, Ayudhapooja, and Durga Puja.

Banks stay open only in Sikkim and Manipur.Wednesday, October 21Banks are closed in Tripura, Karnataka, Sikkim, Assam, Kerala, West Bengal, and Meghalaya for Vijaya Dasami, Durga Puja (Dasain), and Maha Dashami.Thursday and Friday, October 22 and 23Banks are closed in Sikkim for Durga Puja (Dasain). In addition to these holidays, banks across the country will remain closed on October 24, the fourth Saturday of the month.

As per the RBI's holiday schedule, all scheduled and non-scheduled banks observe a holiday on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month. The good news is that a closed branch does not mean banking comes to a complete standstill. ATMs, UPI, internet banking and mobile banking apps will remain available for routine transactions such as fund transfers, bill payments and account management. However, services requiring a physical branch visit may have to wait until it reopens.A quick check of the holiday calendar could save customers an unnecessary trip and help keep their banking plans on track amid the festive rush.
