And Snyder has several more big ideas waiting in the wings. His upcoming projects include The Last Photograph, a passion project he has been trying to make since the 2000s, Brawler, a UFC drama, an untitled LAPD movie, and a reimagining of John Carpenter's Escape From New York. Some have been circling his filmography for years, while others could push him into territory he has never tackled before. Here are all of Zack Snyder's upcoming movies.

The Last Photograph (Expected 2027)

The Last Photograph is the Zack Snyder passion project that has spent nearly two decades trying to reach the screen. Snyder began developing the movie in the mid-2000's, and an earlier version briefly attracted major stars Christian Bale and Sean Penn in 2011 before the project stalled. After years in limbo, it was revived in 2025 with Stuart Martin and Fra Fee, who previously worked with Snyder on Rebel Moon, taking the lead roles.

The movie follows Ethan Black, an ex-DEA operative who is headed into the South American mountains to find his missing niece and nephew after their diplomat parents are murdered. His search leads to a washed-up photographer who witnessed the killings, and the pair set out to find the children and the truth. The film is said to blur the line between reality and the surreal, giving Snyder a chance to explore something more grounded than the superheroes, zombies, or science-fiction projects he is known for.

Still, 'grounded' does not appear to mean restrained. Snyder's first look at the movie, released just a few days ago, feature an animal being bled out, a soldier being shot, and bloodied hands being washed, hinting at an intensely violent revenge thriller. Filming is noted to have wrapped in 2025 after filming in Iceland, Colombia, and Los Angeles (via IMDB). The Last Photograph does not have a release date yet, but after all these years, the project is finally looking like a movie audiences will be able to see.

Brawler (TBD)

Brawler will take Zack Snyder into the world of professional mixed martial arts, following his young Los Angeles fighter who earns a shot at the UFC championship while battling his inner demons and fighting for redemption (via IMDB). The story will explore the personal history, sacrifices, and mental resilience required to reach the highest ranks of UFC.

Snyder signed on to direct, co-write, and produce the movie in March 2025, partnering with UFC CEO Dana White and Saudi Arabian entertainment executive Turki Alalshikh. Shay Hatten and Kurt Johnstad, both Snyder collaborators, will co-write, while Deborah Snyder and Wesley Coller will produce through the Stone Quarry. With the UFC directly involved, Brawler could give Snyder an opportunity to bring his highly stylized approach to action to a story founded on the physical and psychological demands of becoming a champion.

Untitled LAPD Movie (TBD)

Zack Snyder's untitled Netflix movie will follow an elite LAPD unit as its members navigate high-stakes situations where law and morality collide (via IMDB). Specific plot details remain under wraps, but the premise suggests a very character-driven action thriller focused as much on the difficult choices facing the officers as the danger surrounding them.

Snyder will direct, co-write, and produce the film with frequent collaborator Kurt Johnstad, who previously worked with him on 300 and Rebel Moon. Deborah Snyder and Wesley Coller will also produce through their Stone Quarry banner. The project originated from conversations Snyder had with Netflix film chief Dan Lin about telling a visceral story set within such a complex world as the LAPD, and that long-standing interest makes the movie one of the most interesting projects on his upcoming slate (via The Hollywood Reporter).

Escape From New York Remake (TBD)

Zack Snyder is bringing his own vision to John Carpenter's Escape From New York, the 1981 cult classic that turned Kurt Russell's Snack Plissken into one of action cinema's most enduring antiheroes. The original follows the former Special Forces solider as he enters a Manhattan transformed into a maximum-security prison to rescue the President. Snyder will write and direct the reimagining, with Carpenter returning as an executive producer (via IMDB).

StudioCanal and The Picture Company are developing the movie, with Snyder producing alongside Deborah Snyder and Wesley Coller through Stone Quarry. While the new story and cast currently remain under wraps, Snyder reportedly wants a rougher, more tactile approach, relying on practical effects, real locations instead of the polished digital spectacle associated with some of his larger projects (via The Hollywood Reporter). That could potentially make this project a great fit for the filmmaker, whose feature debut, Dawn of the Dead, similarly relied on practical film-making to create its gritty atmosphere.

Though the remake currently has a long road to the big screen. Hollywood has cycled through multiple versions over the years, with multiple directors connected at various points. Snyder's involvement finally gives the project a writer-director with a clear connection to Carpenter's brand of hard-edged action, while Carpenter's participation could help preserve what made the original so special.

Will Zack Snyder Return To Any Of His Franchises?

Snyder has created several franchises that could support more stories, but that does not mean he will return to all of them. The SnyderVerse remains the most obvious example of a world fans continue to campaign for, even as James Gunn and Peter Safran move the DC Universe in a different direction. Snyder briefly reignited speculation in early August 2026 after sharing a photo of him at Warner Bros. with the caption, "Hanging out with a bunch of amazing people today down at the WB." (via Instagram).

For fans who have spent years hoping to see his DC plans restored, the post naturally raised questions. However, there is no indication that his visit will grant a return to the SnyderVerse, and the current DCU makes that possibility increasingly unlikely. Snyder's original plans included a much larger fleshed-out story involving the Justice League and Darkseid, but Gunn's DCU is now establishing its own continuity.

Rebel Moon has a more realistic chance of returning because Snyder still has plenty of ideas for the universe he created. The first two films arrived on Netflix in 2023 and 2024, followed by R-rated director's cuts, comics, and a video game. Snyder has said there are 'tons of stories' available for the franchise and explained he took a break while continuing to work on his unnamed LAPD film (via Variety). As of August 2026, however, Rebel Moon 3 has not been confirmed. Snyder's comments suggest the door remains open, but Netflix would ultimately have to decide whether another film is worth pursuing.

Army of the Dead is in a much weaker position. Netflix has canceled Zack Snyder's franchise, putting the planned Planet of the Dead sequel and animated series in doubt despite Snyder having already developed ideas for both. He also revealed that Army of the Dead and Rebel moon were connected, with an animated project potentially serving as a bridge between the two worlds. That crossover now appears unlikely.

Of Snyder's three major franchises, Rebel Moon therefore has the clearest path forward. The SnyderVerse belongs to a DC continuity that has moved on, while the Army of the Dead has effectively been closed. For Zack Snyder, the future may be less about resurrecting old franchises and more about finding another world to build from scratch.
